Math-Today's work is a review of fractions and mixed numbers. Be sure to read the directions for each question. Word clues will tell you what problem to set up and solve. For example, total=sum, how much further=subtract, 1/2 the distance=multiply by 1/2, etc.
Also, because addition is COMMUTATIVE, we can change the order we add the distances shown in the chart. When you are adding mixed numbers, it may be quicker for you to add all the whole numbers first, and then add the fractional parts. Be sure to use the LEAST COMMON DENOMINATOR ( find the least common multiple). You cannot add or subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Show all your work! You may check your math with a calculator and go back and revise, but these are skills you need to be able to do proficiently without a calculator.
